What is the film about?
Greek Pete is a docudrama based on the experiences of the cast (London based rent-boys) to create a fictional representation of their world.

How is it doing in the festival circuit? Has it received any award?
The film has been playing the festival circuit and has just recently been released in the UK in cinemas and on DVD. It has also picked up a few awards along the way - the special jury prize at the Atlanta Film Festival and the Artistic Achievement Award at Outfest in Los Angeles.

Who are the members of the cast and how was your relationship with them?
I cast the film by putting adverts on certain gay websites in the UK and then interviewed the guys that responded. Pete, who is the lead in the film, was the first person I met and I knew he would be great for the film. The rest of the cast came via him; they are all his friends within the escort scene of London.

How was the production process?
The production process was a fascinating one. We shot over the course of a year, on and off, and developed the story (based on what was happening in their lives) as we went along. There was never a script and everything was improvised by the guys. This seemed the best method to get the most truth from their lives without it being a straight documentary. This distinction meant the cast could play versions of themselves rather than the real thing and this was freeing process for them all.

Are you coming to LesGaiCineMad in November to present your film?
Unfortunately I can't come to the festival.

¿Cómo está funcionando en festivales? ¿Ha recibido algún premio? ¿Algún
otro mérito destacable?
La peli se ha proyectado en el circuíto de festivales y acaba de estrenarse en Inglaterra en cines y en DVD. Por el camino ha recibido algunos premios – Premio especial del jurado en el Festival de Atlanta y Premio al logro artístico en el Outfest de Los Ángeles.

¿Quiénes son los actores y qué tal fue tu relación con ellos durante la
preparación y rodaje de la película?
Conseguí el reparto de la peli colocando carteles en webs gays en Inglaterra y haciendo entrevistas a algunos de los chicos que contestaron. Pete, que es el protagonista de la peli, fue el primero que conocí y supe enseguida que sería importante para la película. El resto del reparto llegó gracias a él, todos son amigos suyos del mundo de escort londinense.

¿Cómo fue el proceso de producción?
Todo el proceso de producción fue fascinante. Rodamos a lo largo de un año, entrando y saliendo, y construyendo la historia (que está basada en lo que sucedía en sus vidas reales) a medida que avanzábamos. Nunca hubo un guión y todo el texto eran improvisaciones de los actores. Me pareció el sistema más auténtico para mostrar la realidad de sus vidas sin hacer un auténtico documental. Esto significó que los actores pudieron interpretar versiones de sí mismos y fue un proceso liberador para todos ellos.

¿Vienes a LesGaiCineMad en Noviembre para presentarla?
Lamentablemente no podré asistir al Festival, pero la web de la peli tiene todo tipo de información.
