What is your film about?
My movie is about a boy, Javier, who is looking for the man he loves, Iñaki. But when he can’t find him, discovers on his way another one man, a German, and Javier decides to begin a relationship with him.
At first, Javier tryes to approach to Iñaki (who is a member of the basque terrorist group ETA) getting along with his ideology and, not being basque, he decides to simulate to be basque and to adopt the independentist ideology to such an extent that he tries to burn a police man in a protest march. While Javier lives in a youth facility, Iñaki is demanded by the group to perpetrate an action and has to go underground. Javier escapes of the youth facility and returns to the streets. But he has no way to find Iñaki. In his search of him, Javier finds a retired German police man who, intrigued by the identity of Javier, follows him until he verifies that he’s a helpless orphan. And he ends up seducing him.

How is it doing in the festival circuit? Has it received any award? Any other merit?

The movie has being workend really well in festivals:
1. Best performance (Israle Rodríguez) in LesGaiCineMad 2007
2. Audience award in Idem Festival 2008
3. Special Mwention Cinhomo ‘08
4. Best Fim in “Bridge Fest”, Sarajevo ‘09

Who are the members of the cast and how was your relationship with them?
The main role is played by Israel Rodríguez, who also was the main role in the short history "Bad Companies" that I had directed previously and with whom I obtain much acknowledgement. Work with him is really easy, much more so because we are great friends
Others roles are played by Mehroz Arif and Hugo Catalán (there are with Javier whem he escapes from the youth facility, both of them have no experience on movies but have a great talent. They are also others main characters played by Juan Luis Galiardo (the retired police man) and Luis Hostalot (the terrorist) who are actors with which I had previously worked with, as well as Ana Rayo (she plays Edurne, the companion of commando of Iñaki). All three are very experienced actors and very reliable and professional.
The great discoveries for me were Inma Cuevas and Pepa Aniorte, (playing the roles of the girlfriend of the companions of Javier’s escape) who compose very funny screen partners.

How was the production process?
A bit clandestine, like the title of the film, because of its little financing that made us replace many things without money. But we had enough time for the shooting (5 weeks). It was a very good atmosphere and we had a great time.

Are you coming to LesGaiCineMad in November to present your film?
No, we were already there in 2007. In fact, it was released there.

¿De qué trata tu película?
Mi película cuenta la historia de un chico, Javier, que yendo en busca del hombre al que ama, Iñaki, y no encontrándolo, descubre en su camino a otro, Germán, con el que decide comenzar una relación. En un principio el chico trata de aproximarse a Iñaki (que es un miembro de la banda terrorista ETA) simpatizando con su ideología y, no siéndolo, decide hacerse pasar por vasco y adoptar la ideología independentista hasta tal punto que trata de quemar a un policía en una manifestación. Javier es internado en un centro de menores mientras que Iñaki es reclamado por la banda para perpetrar una acción y ha de pasar a la clandestinidad. Javier se fuga del centro y de vuelta a la calle, no tiene manera de dar con Iñaki. En su búsqueda se cruza con Germán, un policía retirado que, intrigado por la identidad de Javier, sigue sus pasos hasta comprobar que es un huérfano desvalido. Y acaba seduciéndolo.


¿Cómo está funcionando en festivales? ¿Ha recibido algún premio? ¿Algún
otro mérito destacable?

En los festivales ha funcionado muy bien:

1. Mejor interpretación (Israel Rodríguez) en el LesGaiCineMad 2007.
2. Premio del público en Festival Idem 2008
3. Mención especial Cinhomo 08
4. Mejor película en el "Bridge Fest" de Sarajevo 2009

¿Quiénes son los actores y qué tal fue tu relación con ellos durante la
preparación y rodaje de la película?
El protagonista único es Israel Rodríguez, que fue el protagonista del cortometraje "Malas Compañías" que yo había dirigido con anterioridad y con el que obtuve mucho reconocimiento. Trabajar con él es muy sencillo y cuanto más siendo grandes amigos.
Los actores principales son Mehroz Arif y Hugo Catalán (en los papeles de compañeros de fuga del centro de menores), son actores debutantes pero de grandísimo talento. También son principales Juan Luis Galiardo (en el papel de policía) , Luis Hostalot (en el papel de terrorista) que son actores con los que yo había trabajado con anterioridad, así como Ana Rayo (en el papel de Edurne, la compañera de comando de Iñaki). Actores de mucha experiencia y gran solvencia.
El descubrimiento para mí fueron Inma Cuevas y Pepa Aniorte, en el papel de novias de los compañeros de fuga de Javier) que componen una divertida pareja escénica.

¿Cómo fue el proceso de producción?
Algo Clandestino, como el título de la película, debido a su escasa financiación que nos hizo suplir muchas cosas sin los recursos del dinero. Por lo demás, tuvo un timepo suficiente de rodaje (5 semanas), hubo muy buen ambiente y lo pasamos muy bien.

¿Vienes a LesGaiCineMad en Noviembre para presentarla?
No, ya se presentó en 2007. De hecho, se estrenó allí.
