What is your film about?

The golden thread tells us the story about two women who, due to different circumstances, are experiencing suffering and solitude at the same time. They do not know each other, but they are somehow connected and, without being able to understand it, they do feel each other. This connection becomes a key element to their salvation, as it opens the door to hope.

How is it doing in the festival circuit? Has it received any award? Any other merit?

I cannot complain of how it’s doing along the festivals, but curiously even better at an international level.
Up to date, The golden thread has already received 55 nominations, 37 out of those have taken place out of Spain. Currently, it has already received 8 awards and it became one of the 12 finalists of the Manhattan Short Film Festival. All finalists were projected in more than 100 cities all over the world, and the winner was directly nominated for the Oscars.

Who are the members of the cast and how was your relationship with them?

When I start a fiction project, the character creation process with the actors has high importance to me, making me feel the passion of it.
Especially, working with the two leading actresses was very intense. Before even filming, we performed several exercises so they could match their own characters, both of them being extremely complex.
I was really lucky that both actresses (Ana Asensio and Patricia Cercas) got really involved in the project. It was an unforgettable experience at the interpretative level, and truly enriching for all of us.

How was the production process?

As in almost every short film, the production process turned out to be very hard and expensive, both at resources and personal levels. Due to several reasons, timings reached 12 days, to obtain 20 minutes of actual movie.
Since we approved the last script version until we got the first copy, 9 months passed by. I got so involved in the story, and I so felt it from the core of it that it truly trapped me. When we eventually ended the film, it was very difficult for me to get apart from it and go back to reality.

Are you coming to LesGaiCineMad in November to present your film?

¿De qué trata tu película?

EL HILO DE ORO nos cuenta la historia de dos mujeres que, por diferentes circunstancias, viven al mismo tiempo un momento de sufrimiento y soledad. No se conocen entre ellas, pero están conectadas de alguna manera y, sin saberlo ni entenderlo, se sienten la una a la otra. Esa conexión llega a ser primordial para su salvación, ya que les abre el camino hacia la esperanza.


¿Cómo está funcionando en festivales? ¿Ha recibido algún premio? ¿Algún
otro mérito destacable?

No me puedo quejar de cómo está funcionando en festivales, pero curiosamente sobre todo a nivel internacional. Hasta el momento EL HILO DE ORO ha obtenido 55 selecciones, de las cuales 37 han sido fuera de España. De momento lleva 8 premios y llegó a ser finalista en el Manhattan Short Film Festival, que proyectaba los 12 cortos finalistas en más de 100 ciudades de todo el mundo, y el ganador era directamente nominado a los Oscar del año pasado.

¿Quiénes son los actores y qué tal fue tu relación con ellos durante la preparación y rodaje de la película?

Cuando comienzo un proyecto de ficción, la creación de los personajes con los actores es un proceso que me apasiona y al que le doy mucha importancia.
Especialmente, el trabajo con las dos actrices principales fue muy intenso. Antes de rodar hacíamos varios ejercicios para que pudiesen entrar totalmente en los respectivos personajes, ya que éstos eran muy complejos.
Tuve la suerte de que ambas actrices (Ana Asensio y Patricia Cercas) se involucraron por completo en el proyecto y fue una experiencia a nivel interpretativo inolvidable y enriquecedora para todos.

¿Cómo fue el proceso de producción?

Como en casi todos los cortometrajes, el proceso de producción resultó muy duro y costoso a nivel material y personal. Por diferentes motivos, las jornadas de rodaje se extendieron a 12 días, para una película de 20 minutos finales de metraje.

Desde que aprobamos la última versión del guión hasta que conseguimos la primera copia en cine, pasaron 9 meses aproximadamente. Me involucré tanto en la historia, y viví tanto dentro de ella, que me atrapó por completo y, cuando por fin terminamos la película, me resultó muy difícil despegarme de ella y tener que volver a la realidad.
