What is your film about?
Placer is a generational story about seven friends in their nearly thirties who meet in a country house to go back to their University years. They find an old porn film which will shake all they know about themselves to the point that after one night, nothing will be the same again. It is a short trying to deal with feelings which everyone has undergone – sometimes ignoring the sexual orientation since love, friendship, jealousy, revenge, sex, hidden desires and a lot more are feelings which have nothing to do with sexual identity.

How is it doing in the festival circuit? Has it received any award? Any other merit?
Placer was premiered only a month ago so we have to wait a little to see how it goes. Even so, it received an award during the short pre-production for best project in the Andalusian Contest of Short Films 2009 and received the grant of the Youth Area of the Malaga’s Council which assessed the script.

Who are the members of the cast and how was your relationship with them?
Placer exists thanks to the actors and actress, without whom this experience would not have been possible nor have any sense. They are Laura Artolachipi, Juan Caballero (leading part in the theatre peace Silenciados about the murder of different homosexual people along the 20th century), Maggie Civantos, Chico García, Ignacio Mateos Vivancos, Sergio Ocón and Noemí Ruiz. I had worked with some of them before and with others it was the first time, but all of them put everything they had into this project from the very beginning. They accepted very difficult roles and gave me all I asked for and more. Placer is a story where basically everything goes around the dialogues between the seven main characters which was why it was like an obsession for the team to find the perfect actors. And luckily, we found them.

How was the production process?
Everything went well. From the beginning we had a clear idea what we wanted to do and the productor, Habacuc Rodríguez, gave me complete liberty to shoot the short film that I wanted, with the actors I wanted and giving ourselves a lot of possibilities to improvise. I was lucky to count on the team I have been working with for more than four years. We all know each other, our weak spots and the way to get the shooting done.

Are you coming to LesGaiCineMad in November to present your film?
Yes, sure, I’m really happy for it. In 2006, I received my first award at the Lesbian and Gay Film Festival in Andalusia. We won it for the best short film with ¿A quién te llevarías a una isla desierta? so I am really, really happy to be able to show Placer at the Festival of Madrid. It is its first showing, which is the one always remembered with love, so we’ll be there with all the team.

¿De qué trata tu película?
Placer es una historia generacional sobre siete amigos a punto de cumplir los treinta años que se reúnen en una casa rural para recuperar sus años de Universidad. El descubrimiento de una vieja película porno sacudirá todo lo que creían saber de ellos mismos hasta el punto que después de una noche nada volverá a ser como antes. Es un corto que intenta hablar de sentimientos por los que todos hemos pasado alguna vez sin importar que se sea gay o heterosexual ya que el amor, la amistad, los celos, la venganza, el sexo, los deseos ocultos y mucho más son sensaciones que no entienden de identidad sexual.

¿Cómo está funcionando en festivales? ¿Ha recibido algún premio? ¿Algún
otro mérito destacable?
Placer se estrenó hace sólo un mes así que está empezando ahora mismo a circular por festivales. Aún así, durante la preproducción del cortometraje ya ganó el premio al mejor proyecto en el Certamen Andaluz de Cortometrajes 2009 y recibió la subvención del Área de Juventud del Ayuntamiento de Málaga que valoró su guión .

¿Quiénes son los actores y cómo fue la relación con ellos durante el rodaje?
Placer existe gracias a sus actores, sin ellos esta aventura no hubiera sido posible ni tendría sentido. Ellos son Laura Artolachipi, Juan Caballero (protagonista de la obra de teatro “Silenciados” sobre el asesinato de distintas personas homosexuales a lo largo del S.XX), Maggie Civantos, Chico García, Ignacio Mateos Vivancos, Sergio Ocón y Noemí Ruiz. Con algunos ya había trabajado anteriormente y con otros lo hacía por primera vez, pero todos ellos se dejaron la piel en el proyecto desde el principio, aceptaron unos papeles muy difíciles y me dieron todo lo que les pedí y mucho más. Placer es una historia donde básicamente todo se sostiene en torno al diálogo entre los siete protagonistas por lo que encontrar a los actores perfectos se convirtió en una obsesión para todo el equipo desde el principio. Por suerte los encontramos.

¿Cómo fue el proceso de producción?
Todo salió bien, desde el principio tuvimos muy claro lo que queríamos hacer y el productor, Habacuc Rodríguez, me dio toda la libertad del mundo para rodar el corto que yo quería, con los actores que yo quería y dándonos mucho margen para la improvisación. Tuve la suerte de contar con el equipo con el que llevo trabajando más de cuatro años y todos nos conocemos, sabemos de qué pie cojeamos cada uno y cómo tenemos que sacar adelante el rodaje. Era un guión difícil pero que creo que ha llegado a buen puerto aunque eso yo no soy nadie para decirlo, lo tiene que decir el espectador.

¿Vendrás a Madrid a presentarlo?
Sí, claro, me hace muchísima ilusión. En 2006 en el Festival de Cine Gay Lésbico de Andalucía me dieron mi primer premio, ganamos al mejor cortometraje con "¿A quién te llevarías a una isla desierta?" por lo que me hace mucha, mucha ilusión presentar "Placer" en el Lesgaicinemad. Es su primer paso y ese es el que siempre se recuerda con más cariño, así que allí estaremos todo el equipo.
