What is your film about?
“REEL” is a five minutes piece with a Music Video format. It talks about a boy taking a walk around Madrid. In him we tried to mix calmness and relaxation and with this character the movement of his feet from here to there (something we managed with the sweet melody “downhill” by Moby- with the tension that the chosen route causes, the chaotic path traced, giving all the importance to the fact of walking just as a pleasure itself).
Besides it is about the foreseen destiny (if there´s one) and the stops and decision that happen on your way. REEL is a tribute to wandering around, to Madrid, to a city map in where there are no names, and cruising and the the pleasure obtained through pain.

How is it doing in the festival circuit? Has it received any award? Any other merit?
LesGaiCineMad 2009 would be there first festival where “REEL” will be presented. Therefore, it´s an original piece that hasn´t got any awards and which only remarkable merit is the personal satisfaction that gives its fast display which is in fact its intrinsic objective.

Who are the members of the cast and how was your relationship with them?
“REEL” didn´t use professional actors to be taped, except the cameo done by the porn actor Christoff Schaff who was part of the material used. I imagined it, taped it and starred in it. It was filmed in just 2 days, in specific places and because of the narrative and the form in which it was getting structure, it didn´t need any other kind of participation.

How was the production process?
Fast, from the day the idea and the concept of “REEL” were born until it was shown on screens 3 days passed. The filming was a pleasure where there barely needed to be any acting to obtain the plot. The editing was done in a long night, in one shot. And thanks to the zero complexity of the project and the characteristics of its length there weren´t any long periods of time needed nor money to finish it.

Are you coming to LesGaiCineMad in November to present your film?
Of course , it would be there first time that I show up to a festival with a audiovisual piece of my own. Someone suggested me to do it and I thought it would be a good idea to show “REEL”, more for the satisfaction of have watched or enjoyed it that anything else. I still think it´s a pretty small piece, very short and not pretentious at all, but with a firm light that it´s likable, which is enough reason to show it.

¿De qué trata tu película?
"REEL" es una pieza de poco más de 5 minutos de duración, con formato de videoclip musical, que narra el paseo de un chico por la ciudad de Madrid. En él se intenta mezclar la tranquilidad y el relax con los cuales el personaje mueve los pies de allá para acá (lo cual se consigue con la dulce melodía del tema "Downhill" de Moby) con la tensión y la inseguridad que destila la ruta, el camino caótico trazado, otorgándole toda la importancia al hecho de "pasear" como placer en sí mismo, independientemente del destino previsto (si lo hay) y de las paradas y decisiones que surgen en el camino. "REEL" es un homenaje al paseo, a Madrid, al mapa de una ciudad en el que no aparecen nombres... incluso al cruising y al placer obtenido a través del dolor.

¿Cómo está funcionando en festivales? ¿Ha recibido algún premio? ¿Algún otro mérito destacable?
El LesGaiCineMad 2009 es la primera ocasión en la que "REEL" se presenta a un festival. Por lo tanto, se trata de una pieza original, que no ha recibido ningún premio y cuyo primer mérito destacable es la satisfacción personal que pueda generar su rápido visionado, lo cual es, de hecho, su objetivo intrínseco.

¿Quiénes son los actores y qué tal fue tu relación con ellos durante la preparación y rodaje de la película?
"REEL" no utilizó actores profesionales para grabarse, a excepción de la aparición del actor porno Christoff Scharff como parte del material de archivo utilizado. Yo lo ideé, grabé y protagonicé. Fue rodado en apenas 2 días, en determinadas localizaciones y, debido al tipo de narración y la forma en la que está estructurado, no requirió ningún otro tipo de participación.

¿Cómo fue el proceso de producción?
Rápido. Desde que surgió la idea y el concepto de "REEL" hasta que pudo verse en una pantalla pasaron alrededor de 3 días. El rodaje fue un placer en el cual apenas hubo que actuar para conseguir el argumento. La posterior edición se realizó en una noche entera, prácticamente del tirón. Gracias a la nula complejidad del proyecto y a sus características de duración, etc., no fueron necesarios largos plazos de tiempo y dinero para completarlo..

¿Vienes a LesGaiCineMad en Noviembre para presentarla?
Por supuesto. Se trataría de la primera vez que me presento a un festival con una pieza audiovisual realizada por mí. Me fue sugerida la posibilidad de hacerlo y pensé que podría ser bueno enseñar "REEL", más por la satisfacción que se desprende de ver cómo otros han disfrutado viéndola previamente que por cualquier otro beneficio que pueda obtener. Sigo pensando que se trata de una obra pequeña, muy breve y nada pretenciosa, pero con un brillo firme que puede gustar, lo cual es suficiente motivo para mostrarla.
