What is your film about?

NU2 is about the typical doubts that show up in a relationship; fiction is used to point out our intimate fears and critics.
Those oppressive relationships that we don´t want to keep any longer. The film asks the question and answers it by creating the doubt in the audience. This is a universal feeling no matter the sexual tendencies.
I wanted that everybody could feel connected with this story.
I was inspired in my own experience in Madrid when I visited my ex at his hotel room every time he got back from a flight. I always had the feeling that communication was stocked and that I wasn´t conscious of the real situation.
Then I distorted those memories and came out with three different points of view.


How is it doing in the festival circuit? Has it received any award? Any other merit?

This is the first festival and I hope it will be shown in many others. This is a total independent production and it took us more than a year to finish it. The premiere has been in June at Palma de Mallorca, my homeland.
For me it is a pleasure to show the film first at this festival, my last work “Carne de gorila” have succeeded in lesgai, the festival helped a lot to promote the film indeed.

Who are the members of the cast and how was your relationship with them?

La Prohibida, Paloma Navarro and Arturo Carrion are the cast of this story. All of them are long time good friends. I wanted to work with the same trio that played my last work “Carne de Gorila” and I will like to work with them again because they have an especial chemistry that I enjoy and find inspiring. I even thought of making a trilogy with them.
I try to rehearse and listening the cast´s ideas before shooting. I like them to get involved, to study the plot, to suggest changes. In this case they have done it.
I have to admit that the shooting was pretty difficult sometimes because we didn´t have time and we had some little accidents, but I think that we had a really good time.
I believe that the important thing is to learn from the experience and try to improve, that is what I´ve tried to do.

How was the production process?

Production is not my thing, neither the thing of David Bonet (co-producer and art director). Thank God we have some friends that are very good in that field as Miquel Angel Llompart and Juanan Dols, among others.
If it would depend on me I think it would take a couple of years before starting shooting.

Are you coming to LesGaiCineMad in November to present your film?

¿De qué trata tu película?


NU2 habla de las dudas que se plantean en ciertas relaciones personales, donde la ficción es utilizada para expresar de forma encubierta nuestros miedos y reproches más íntimos.
Aquellas relaciones que nos atan y que no deseamos mantener por más tiempo.
Genera una pregunta y responde planteando la duda en el espectador. Un sentimiento universal, para todo ser humano, sin importar su orientación ni condición sexual.
Quise hacer una historia en la que cualquiera pudiese verse reflejado.
Como punto de partida, me inspiré en los días en que vivía en Madrid y visitaba a mi ex pareja en su habitación de hotel, cada vez que llegaba de volar. Siempre tuve la sensación de que la comunicación no fluía y de que no tenía conciencia de la verdadera realidad que me envolvía.
Luego deformé esos recuerdos y dividí el peso en tres puntos de vista.

¿Cómo está funcionando en festivales? ¿Ha recibido algún premio? ¿Algún otro mérito destacable?

Es el primer festival al que se presenta y espero que lo haga en muchos más. La producción es totalmente independiente y esto ha hecho que tardáramos más de un año en terminarla. Se estrenó en junio de 2009 en Palma de Mallorca, mi tierra natal.
Para mi es un placer que sea el primer festival al que lo presento, pues mi anterior trabajo “carne de gorila”, tuvo una estupenda acogida en el festival de lesgai, que ayudó a su difusión .

¿Quiénes son los actores y qué tal fue tu relación con ellos durante la preparación y rodaje de la película?

La Prohibida, Paloma Navarro y Arturo Carrión, son los protagonistas de esta historia. Todos ellos, además, buenos amigos a los que conozco de hace tiempo.
En esta ocasión quise repetir con el mismo trío protagonista de mi anterior trabajo “Carne de gorila” y no me importaría volverlo a hacer, pues creo que hay una estupenda química entre ellos y eso me gusta e inspira. Incluso pensé en la posibilidad de rodar una trilogía, con los tres actores.
Procuro ensayar bastante antes de rodar y escuchar su opinión del guión. Me gusta que se involucren; que me propongan cambios, que analicen el texto. Y en el caso de NU2 así ha sido .
Aunque confieso que el rodaje fue bastante difícil en algunas secuencias, sobre todo por falta de tiempo y algún “acidentito”, lo cierto es que creo que hubo un ambiente muy bueno.
Creo que lo importante en un corto es aprender y mejorar y eso es lo que intenté hacer.

¿Cómo fue el proceso de producción?
La producción nunca fue mi fuerte, ni la de mi colega David Bonet (director de imagen y co-productor) Gracias a Dios ambos gozamos de muy buenas amistades que dominan más ese terreno, como Miquel Ángel Llompart y Juanan Dols, entre otros.
Si dependiera solo de mi, creo que hubiera tardado un par de años en empezar a rodar.
