Monika Treut at the SFM Training Programme! / Monika Treut en el Programa de Entrenamiento del SFM!

Monika Treut will conduct the Seminar “Feature Films. How to produce, direct and distribute your own films“(2 nd Nov - 12-14 h – English - C/Prado, 21 – Madrid) within LesGaiCineMad SFM Training Programme that will be held form 2nd to 6th November 2009 as part of LesGaiCineMad -14th Madrid ’s International Lesbian, Gay & Transexual Film Festival organized by Fundación Triángulo.

Monika Treut runs the independent film production company, Hyena Films, with offices in Hamburg, Germany. Her new feature “Ghosted” (2009; writer/director/producer) had its world premiere in the 2009 Berlin Film Festival in the Panorama section'

Monika started to write, direct and produce award-winning independent features and documentaries in the mid-eighties. Her films have screened at numerous film festivals throughout the world and enjoy international distribution. Retrospectives have been held in Mexico City, Sao Paolo, Taipei, Toronto, Cambridge, Helsinki, Hamburg, Thessaloniki, Los Angeles and Lisbon. Monika's first feature, co-directed with Elfi Mikesch, was the controversial “Seduction: The Cruel Woman” (1985), which since has become a cult classic. The black and white coming-out tale “Virgin Machine” followed in 1988. My Father Is Coming, a comedy of manners set in New York, was released in 1991.

In 1992, Monika began directing documentaries including “Female Misbehavior”, four portraits of bad girls, among them Camille Paglia; "Didn’t Do It For Love" (1997), a portrait of Norwegian-born Eva Norvind, B-movie star in Mexico, later dominatrix in New York; “Gendernauts” (1999), about a group portrait of transgendered cyborgs in San Francisco. In 2001 Treut completed “Warrior of Light”, about Yvonne Nezerra de Mello, an internationally renowned artist and human rights activist who works with endangered children in the streets and slums of Rio de Janeiro. Since 2002 Treut has been infactuated with Taiwan. There she wrote, directed and co-produced 2 documentaries, “Tigerwomen Grow Wings” about three generations of women, featuring well-known writer Li Ang, famed opera singer Hsieh Yueh Hsia and young film director DJ Chen. “Made in Taiwan” a portrait of a 17-year-old dance student followed in 2005.

LesGaiCineMad SFM Training Programme has no fee. It’s in English and to attend you should be accredited.

Monika Treut será ponente en el Seminario “Largometrajes de Ficción. ¿Cómo producir, dirigir y distribuir tus propias películas?” (2 Nov - 12-14 h – Inglés - C/Prado, 21 – Madrid) en el Programa de Formación de LesGaiCineMad SFM que se realizará del 2 al 6 de Noviembre de 2009 dentro del 14 LesGaiCineMad - Festival Internacional de Cine LGBT de Madrid organizado por Fundación Triángulo.

Monika Treut dirige la empresa productora independiente Hyena Films con sede en Hamburgo, Alemania. Su nueva película “Ghosted” (2009; guionista/directora/productora) tuvo su estreno mundial en el Festival de Berlín 2009 en la sección Panorama.

Monika comenzó a escribir, dirigir y producir largometrajes y documentales premiados internacionalmente desde mediados de los 80s. Sus películas fueron exhibidas en numerosos festivales de cine por todo el mundo y disfrutado de distribución internacional. Se han hecho retrospectivas de sus obras en Mexico, San Pablo, Taipei, Toronto, Cambridge, Helsinki, Hamburgo, Thessaloniki, Los Angeles y Lisboa. El primer largometraje de Monika, co-dirigido con Elfi Mikesch, fue el controvertido “Seduction: The Cruel Woman” (1985), que desde entonces se ha convertido en un clásico de culto. La historia de coming-out “Virgin Machine” le siguió en 1988. “My Father Is Coming”, una comedia rodada en Nueva York, se estrenó en 1991.

En 1992, Monika comenzó a dirigir documentales que incluyen “Female Misbehavior”, cuatro retratos de chicas malas, entre ellas Camille Paglia; "Didn’t Do It For Love" (1997), un retrato de la Noruega Eva Norvind, estrella de serie B en Mexico convertida en dominatrix en Nueva York; “Gendernauts” (1999), acerca de un grupo de cyborgs transgéneros en San Francisco. En 2001 Monika completó “Warrior of Light”, acerca de Yvonne Bezerra de Mello, una artista de renombre internacional y activista en derechos humanos que trabaja con los niños de las calles de Rio de Janeiro. Desde 2002 Monika se enamoró de Taiwan. Allí escribió, dirigió y co-produjo 2 documentales, “Tigerwomen Grow Wings” acerca de tres generaciones de mujeres, contando con la renombrada escritora Li Ang, la afamado cantante de opera Hsieh Yueh Hsia y la joven directora DJ Chen. “Made in Taiwan” (2005) un retrato de una bailarina estudiante de 17 años.
