LesGaiCineMad Spanish Film Market (SFM) is an event which will be running in Spain as part of LesGaiCineMad - 14th Madrid International Lesbian, Gay & Transsexual Film Festival.

  • It’s a marketplace where producers and sales companies of the films in the SFM catalogue license films to distributors.
  • It’s a booking place for International Film Festival Programmers to find contents for their own film festivals. 
  • It’s a Training Event on Independent Film Production and Distribution
  • It’s a Meeting Point for Independent Cinema Industry Members where professional meetings, receptions and parties take place.
  • It´s not audience oriented, only accredited industry members are able to attend SFM events.



LesGaiCineMad – Madrid International LGTB Film Festival Profile

LesGaiCineMad is the most important LGTB Film Festival in Spanish Speaking countries, in terms of audience, scope and quantity of movies. 14 years, more than 120 movies, 12 days, 9 venues, daily receptions and 3 high-level parties, with an estimated audience of more than 15.000 spectators being one of the film festivals with more audience from the Community of Madrid and one of most covered by the Spanish Press after San Sebastian and Malaga.  

LesGaiCineMad has a Digital Catalogue of more than 3000 independent movies that is the major archive of films on affective diversity subject in Spain and other Spanish-speaking countries.

LesGaiCineMad created and leads the CineLGBT Network that is the most important network of LGTB Film Festivals in Spanish Speaking countries who involves more than 30 Festivals from Latin America and Spain www.cinelgtb.com These festivals receive support and economic aid through the network to be able to organize their own film festivals in places as Peru, Bolivia, Colombia, etc.   

Because of the work of discovering, subtitling and premiere of Spanish Speaking productions that LesGaiCineMad have done in this 14 years, we can assert that it has became the natural exhibition place for the Spanish and Latin-American productions and the place where distributors, buyers, producers and programmers for International LGTB Film Festivals can find new LGBT contents. 

Taking into account that Spain has a very important cinematographic history including productions that are milestones in the International LGTB Cinema (ex. Pedro Almodóvar, Lucía Puenzo, Julián Hernandez).  And during the last years and in parallel to the growth of our festival, the production of Spanish Speaking LGBT Cinema has improved generating new contents that  compete and win in the major Film Festivals of the World including Cannes and Berlinale.

At the same time new Spanish Speaking Filmmakers produce outstanding shorts that travel around the world wining awards and international recognitions; new audio-visual contents has grown on TV or WebTV showing that there exists a great amount of new talents that emerge with great quality LGTB contents.

Opportunity

With our 14 years experience, our contact with the industry, our relation with the filmmakers and our vocation of continuing growing we have detected that LesGaiCineMad can go one step farther in its support to the LGBT audio-visual contents.

Every year the official selection of our festival has 120 movies of which about 40 are in Spanish Language. All the producers are invited to Madrid where they present their movies to an audience where several of them are distributors, programmers, buyers and press.

So the industry is already with us. To recognize their presence, make them meet each other to generate new projects and business, make them share their experience and knowledge with the new filmmakers is the next step that we believe we must take.

This way the idea of Lesgaicinemad SFM - 1 º Spanish Speaking LGBT Film Market was born.

El SFM – Spanish LGBT Film Market – es un evento que forma parte de LesGaiCineMad - Festival Internacional de Cine LGBT de Madrid.

  • Es un Mercado, un espacio de negocio, donde los productores y los agentes de ventas de las películas que integran el catalogo otorgan/venden/negocian los derechos de sus obras a los distribuidores internacionales. 
  • Es un espacio de exhibición donde los Programadores de otros Festivales Internacionales puede seleccionar contenido para sus propios Festivales.
  • Es un Espacio de Formación donde se imparten seminarios profesionales referidos a la producción y distribución independiente.
  • Es un Punto de Encuentro de los profesionales del Cine Independiente donde se desarrollan reuniones, recepciones y fiestas.
  • No está orientado al público, solo pueden participar de las actividades los miembros de la industria acreditados para acceder a los eventos.

LesGaiCineMad, es el festival de temática LGTB (Lésbica, Gay, Transexual y Bisexual) más importante de los países de habla española, tanto en audiencia, alcance como en cantidad de películas.  14 años, más de 120 películas, 12 días, 9 sedes, recepciones diarias y 3 fiestas de alto nivel con una audiencia estimada de más de 15.000 espectadores siendo uno de los festivales con más público de la Comunidad de Madrid y uno de los más cubiertos por la prensa en España después de San Sebastián, Valladolid y Sitges. 

LesGaiCineMad tiene un  Fondo Digital de más de 3000 películas independientes que componen el mayor fondo sobre diversidad afectiva en España y demás países hispanohablantes.  Fundó y preside La Red de CineLGBT la mayor red de festivales LGTB  en español que involucra a más de 30 Festivales de Cine en América Latina y España www.cinelgtb.com Estos festivales reciben apoyo y ayuda económica a través de la red para poder llevar adelante sus propios festivales en lugares como Perú, Bolivia, Colombia, etc.  

A través de sus 14 años de vida se ha convertido en el referente natural de las producciones Españolas y Latinoamericanas para el resto del mundo.  Su trabajo de descubrimiento, subtitulación y estreno de producciones hispanoamericanas han hecho que LesGaiCineMad sea, en la práctica, una ventana del cine LGTB en español para los distribuidores, compradores, productores y programadores de festivales LGTB internacionales.

Sin olvidar que España cuenta en su historia cinematográfica con producciones que son hitos en el cine LGTB (ej. Pedro Almodóvar, Lucía Puenzo, Julián Hernández) durante los últimos años y en paralelo al crecimiento de nuestro festival, la producción y el mercado hispanoamericano de esta temática se ha ido profesionalizando aún más, generando nuevos contenidos que compiten y ganan en los mayores festivales del mundo incluido Cannes y Berlinale.

Al mismo tiempo surge de toda Hispanoamérica una nueva cantera de cineastas que producen cortometrajes que recorren el mundo cosechando premios y reconocimientos internacionales mientras que la tendencia de generar nuevos contenidos audiovisuales de temática LGTB ha crecido exponencialmente en la Televisión demostrando que existe un nicho de audiencia que espera contenidos LGTB de calidad.

A través de la experiencia de los años, el contacto con la industria, nuestra relación con los cineastas y nuestra vocación de seguir creciendo hemos detectado que LesGaiCineMad puede ir un paso más allá en su apoyo a los contenidos audiovisuales LGTB.

Cada año la selección oficial de nuestro festival cuenta con 120 películas de las cuales alrededor de 40 son en español.  Todos los realizadores son invitados a Madrid donde presentan su película a un público formado por distribuidores, programadores, prensa y medios.

Entonces la industria ya está aquí con nosotros, nos acompaña en la práctica desde hace 14 años.  Reconocer su presencia, hacer que los profesionales del cine LGTB se relacionen entre si para generar nuevos proyectos y negocios; estructurar sus visitas para que aporten su experiencia y compartan su conocimiento con la cantera de cineastas es el próximo paso hacia delante que creemos debe dar nuestro festival.
