LesGaiCineMad Spanish Film Market (SFM) is an event that will take place for the first time as part of Madrid’s 14th International LGBT Film Festival (LesGaiCineMad)

Organized by Fundación Triángulo, LesGaiCineMad is one of the world’s most important independent film festivals, clearly positioned on the map of international festivals and events related to the 7th Art. With 14 years of professional history, 9 venues, and 120 movies, LesGaiCineMad will for the first time bring together members of the international LGBT film industry in a space of exchange, education, and business that will take place at LesGaiCineMad Spanish Film Market (SFM), coordinated by Spanish director Mariel Maciá.

This first edition of Spanish Film Market (SFM) is born with the objective of supporting and promoting the production of independent cinema. “The international industry has been with us,” says Mariel Maciá, head of Industry & Market at LesGaiCineMad, “in each edition for the last 14 years. We believe that acknowledging their presence, having independent LGBT cinema professionals mix and network to create new projects and business, and structuring their visit so that they share their experience and knowledge with Spanish directors is the next step that our festival should take.” A logical evolution if we consider that LesGaiCineMad yearly attracts over 20,000 viewers and directors from all over the world; a circumstance that in previous editions made it possible to count on the presence of respected figures such as Pedro Almodóvar, Bruce LaBruce, and Barbara Hammer among others. Following the San Sebastián, Valladolid and Sitges’ film festivals, LesGaiCineMad is one of the cinematographic events with the most media coverage.

For this first edition, LesGaiCineMad Spanish Film Market (SFM) will get important filmmakers, distributors, and programmers together.

  • SFM will provide its participants a selection of Spanish movies produced from 2006 to today, in DVD format with English subtitles. The same movies will also be viewable at SFM Booths – located at the SFM Meeting Point. The films participating in the official selection of the Festival will also be available.
  • SFM will organize debates, seminars and meetings with renowned international professionals dedicated to the production and distribution of LGBT contents.
  • SFM will create a meeting point (SFM Meeting Point) where all participants  will meet, organize reunions and see movies at SFM Booths.

All these activities have been presented at Frameline 2009, the San Francisco LGBT Film Festival, to give this project its initial boost.
Independent cinema is growing strongly. Throughout these years it has obtained a privileged place within the national and international scene and also a bigger sector within the actual cinematographic market. The movie industry is transforming and adapting to the new times finding the niches that have been exploited in the international market for a long time. As a response to these challenges, LesGaiCineMad has created this new platform to promote and professionalize the LGBT independent cinema in the framework of its 14th edition.

El LesGaiCineMad se hace fuerte desde la industria y compite en el mercado internacional

LesGaiCineMad Spanish Film Market (SFM) es un evento que por primera vez se realizará en España dentro del 14º Festival Internacional de cine Lésbico y Gay de Madrid.

El LesGaiCineMad organizado por Fundación Triángulo es uno de los festivales de cine independiente de temática homosexual más importantes del mundo, claramente posicionado en el mapa eventos internacionales dedicados al septimo arte. Con ya catorce años de andadura profesional, 9 sedes y 120 películas, el Festival Internacional de Cine Lesbico Gai de Madrid reunirá, por primera vez, a los miembros de la industria de cine LGBT internacional en un espacio de intercambio, formación y negocio que tendrá lugar en el LesGaiCineMad Spanish Film Market (SFM), coordinado por la cineasta Mariel Macia.

Este 1º Mercado de Cine LGTB (SFM) en España nace con el objetivo de promover y apoyar la producción de cine independiente: “La industria internacional está aquí con nosotros – destaca Mariel Maciá, Responsable de Industria y Mercado de Lesgaicinemad - en cada edición desde hace 14 años. Reconocer su presencia, hacer que los profesionales del cine independiente de temática homosexual se relacionen entre si para generar nuevos proyectos y negocios; estructurar sus visitas para que aporten su experiencia y compartan su conocimiento con los cineastas españoles es el próximo paso hacia delante que creemos debe dar nuestro festival”. Una evolución lógica teniendo en cuenta que el LesGaiCineMad convoca cada año a más de 20.000 asistentes y directores invitados de todas partes del mundo, una distinción que hizo posible la presencia de figuras tan respetadas como Pedro Almodóvar, Bruce LaBruce y Barbara Hammer entre otros; siendo uno de los eventos cinematográficos más cubiertos por la prensa en territorio español luego de San Sebastián, Valladolid y Sitges.

El LesGaiCineMad Spanish Film Market (SFM) acreditará a importantes cineastas, distribuidoras y programadores para este primer encuentro:

1. SFM pondrá a disposición de los acreditados una selección de películas habladas en español producidas desde el año 2006 hasta la actualidad con subtítulos en ingles y en formato DVD. Las mismas podrán visionarse en las SFM Booths - cabinas habilitadas para ello en el SFM Meeting Point. También podrán visionarse los films que estén en la selección oficial del festival.

2. Se organizarán debates, seminarios y encuentros profesionales con miembros destacados de la industria en el ámbito internacional, orientados a la producción y distribución de contenidos LGBT.

3. Se habilitará un espacio denominado SFM Meeting Point donde todos los acreditados podrán encontrarse, organizar reuniones y visionar películas en las SFM Booths.

Todas estas actividades serán presentadas en Frameline 2009, el festival de cine LGBT que se celebra cada año en la ciudad de San Francisco, donde se dará el puntapié inicial a este proyecto.

El cine independiente crece y se hace fuerte. A lo largo de estos años ha conseguido tener un lugar privilegiado dentro de la escena nacional e internacional y también, ocupar un sector cada vez mas amplio dentro del mercado cinematográfico actual. La industria del cine se transforma y se adapta a los nuevos tiempos descubriendo los nichos que desde hace años se explotan en el mercado internacional, como respuesta a estos cambios el LesGaiCineMad Spanish Film Market (SFM) crea esta nueva plataforma profesional con el afán de promover y profesionalizar el cine independiente de temática homosexual en el marco de esta decimo cuarta edición.
